Merab Dvalishvili, Christian, is slated to compete against former UFC Featherweight champion José Aldo on August 20, 2022, UFC 278.

He is on a hot seven-fight winning streak and is currently ranked No. 5 in the most recent USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie bantamweight rankings.

Aldo, who is No. 6 and right behind him, has won his last three fights after losing his first two since switching from featherweight. He seems to have found his footing in the division.

However, Dvalishvili wasn't expecting Aldo to be his opponent, despite being one of the top 10 bantamweight competitors.

At the UFC 278 media day on Wednesday, Dvalishvili said, "When UFC called me and gave me this fight, I was shocked because I was ready for everyone, but not for Jose Aldo."

"I believed I wasn't big enough, I was thinking of everyone else but Jose Aldo. However, I suppose I am, and he picks a fight with me. It is significant."(MMAjunkie)

Merab Dvalishvili Is A Mixed Martial Artist

Merab Dvaishvili is a qualified mixed martial artist from Georgia. He currently fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's Bantamweight division (UFC).

He is ranked #6 in the UFC bantamweight standings as of September 27, 2021.

Dvalishvili began his MMA career in 2014 and competed in the Ring of Combat, among other promotions. Before taking part in the UFC competition, he compiled a 7-2 record.

At UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Ortega on December 9, 2017, Dvalishvili faced Frankie Saenz in his UFC debut. Dvalisvili has so far participated in 18 competitions in which he won 14.

He won those matches by knockout three times, submission once, and decision ten times.

He is currently vying for the UFC welterweight championship. On August 20, UFC 278 will take place at Utah's Vivint Arena.
