Laura Smith Biography
Laura Smith is an American meteorologist, she is thrilled to call North Carolina home. Laura joined the CBS 17 Storm Team in September 2019. You can catch Laura on CBS 17 each weekday morning from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. Smith is a two-time Emmy nominee from Charleston, South Carolina. Laura graduated in 2014 from the University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Laura began her TV career in Bangor, Maine as the weekday morning anchor for two years at WVII/WFVX. There she fell in love with the weather after her first assignment covering a blizzard.
After two years in the northeast, she headed back home where she worked for our sister station, WCBD, in Charleston, South Carolina for three years. Laura worked as the weekend evening weather anchor before being promoted to midday anchor during the week.
Smith has covered many major weather events in the northeast and Low country, including Hurricanes Michael, Irma, Florence, and Dorian. Laura is also enrolled in a meteorology school at Mississippi State University.
