Stephen King is an American author of horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, crime, science-fiction, and fantasy novels who has US$500 million. For decades, he has dazzled the American populace and the world at large with his writing skills. Many of his books and stories have been turned into popular films or mini-series, including “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Miser,” “Carrie,” “Stand by Me” among others.

Who is Stephen King?

Stephen Edwin King was born on September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine in the United States of America to Nellie Ruth Pillsbury and Donald Edwin King, His father was a travelling vacuum salesman and a World War II veteran.

When King was a child, he was with a friend when he was hit and killed by a train. His family told him that after leaving home to play with the boy, King returned, speechless and in shock. The family found out about the boy’s death later on that day. His mother took a job as a caregiver in a facility for the mentally ill when Stephen was eleven years.

At a young age, he became interested in horror after being told a real life story by his mother. He loved to read EC horror comics which published “Tales from the Crypt.” King began writing for fun during his childhood and later sold his friends based on movies he had watched. His first published story was “I Was a Teenage Grave Robber.”

Stephen King attended Durham Elementary School before going to Lisbon Falls High, Lisbon Falls, Maine for his secondary education. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Maine where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. During his college days, he wrote school newspaper.
